Business Model

Registered Imported Drugs

This portfolio consists of pharmaceuticals that GEN holds rights to, based on exclusive distribution agreements with manufacturing companies and are registered by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye.

GEN owns the registrations, and the Social Security Institution (SGK) reimburses the drugs. Registration involves detailed examinations extending up to 2 years from the application date. Pharmaceuticals in this category can be sold at prices specified in the Health Implementation Communiqué issued by the Social Security Institution of the Republic of Türkiye.

Named Patient Program (NPP)

Medications that are prescribed by doctors for the treatment of patients but are not registered in Türkiye and are granted import permission by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye can be imported through public institutions approved by the Social Security Institution, the Turkish Pharmacists Association, or the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye. These are referred to as the “Named Patient Program” abroad and the “Patient-Specific Drug Supply Program” by the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency.

Pharmaceuticals in this category are imported by GEN based on a regional distribution agreement with the manufacturer, just like registered imported pharmaceuticals. A significant difference between these and registered imported drugs is that the sales price for these medications is in foreign currency. In contrast, the government covers the registered imported drugs entirely.

Registered Generic Manufacturing

In addition to original drugs, GEN is involved in the development, manufacturing, sales and marketing processes of generic medicines that match its portfolio and have expired patents.

To this end, the company launched its production facility in 2017 and manages the processes for obtaining registrations and selling these generic drugs in Türkiye and abroad in countries where Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) approval is held. Additionally, GEN oversees the implementation of GMPs in the relevant countries to sell and distribute these products in new markets.
